Tim Speaking at NYC Junior League's 'A Wedding Affair' on Saturday: 12:30-1:00

The Junior League's Wedding Affair will be this Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at 130 E. 80th Street, with Tim Alan Studios listed as one of the sponsors.

In addition to manning a table for the day to meet with former, future and potential clients, I will be amongst a diverse group of speakers on a wide range of wedding-related subjects.

I plan to speak about new trends in wedding video including full wedding videos on your IPod, today's unobtrusive equipment, the emergence of HD filming and more.

Other speakers include wedding planner Kate Edmonds (Tim Alan client from September 2007- see blog video), photographer Daphne Borowski and more.

The speakers will be going on continuously from 11 TO 3 for a half hour each. It's a good way to take a break from the show and to learn about a specific part of the wedding process you might not be so familiar with.

I will be speaking from 12:30 to 1:00. Hope to see you there!

Super 8 Video Clip

A lot of clients ask us about Super 8 film because they like the timeless, classic look of it. While we shoot most of our weddings strictly with our HD/Widescreen cameras, we do incorporate some Super 8 footage as well if desired.

The appeals of Super 8 are many: it has a nostalgic look, the camera looks and sounds cool, and it makes your wedding stand out from the rest because it's so unique.

There are also not-so-great things about Super 8 that you should think about: film is very expensive, there is no audio, and it is VERY hard to shoot in low light situations.

With the video clip below, you will notice the indoor shots are a bit dark while the outdoor shots came out much better. You will also note both color and black and white footage as super 8 film can be shot with both.

A lot of couples have been opting for our engagement shoot Super 8 option in which we hit a bunch of their favorite NYC spots months before the wedding to create an artsy film for them to show at the rehearsal dinner or reception. This allows us to focus on Super 8 by itself and to do it on a day that's less stressful for both Tim Alan videographers and the couple.

A clip from one of the engagement shoots will be appearing in this space soon, so stay tuned!

ISES Northeast Regional Seminar: Providence

I had the opportunity to travel to Providence for last weekend's northeast regional conference for ISES (International Special Events Society) at the Westin in Providence, Rhode Island.

The weekend was packed with seminars, networking events and great meals. Some of the highlights for me were learning some new trends emerging in the event world, meeting some great new people and attending the amazing Sunday night 'Fire & Ice' party.

Many of the participants were wedding and event planners from up and down the east coast but members of ISES also include photographers, caterers, designers, videographers and just about anyone that works in the event field.

All and all, it was definitely worth the trip!

Tim Alan featured in latest issues of The Bridal Guide & Knot magazines.

I was interviewed in the fall by Elena from the Bridal Guide for an article on wedding videography.

The March/April issue hit the newsstands recently with a detailed article on page 224.

Elena did an excellent job taking the information we discussed and using it in the article. Some of the high points include how to pick a videographer that fits your style, the emergence of less obtrusive equipment, and why audio makes having video at your wedding a necessity.

In the latest issue of the Knot's magazine, Tim Alan is mentioned as one of the five companies that sponsored the Knot's NYC vendor party at Slate in November. We filmed the event which can be seen in this blog as well as on both Tim Alan and the Knot's websites.

The Bridal Guide and the Knot are national magazines available at newsstands and most major bookstores.

Lisa & Mark; Feb 2: Puerto Morelos, Mexico

Lisa and Mark had their closest family and friends gather in Puerto Morelos, Mexico last weekend for a destination wedding event at the Ceiba Del Mar Spa Resort.

Tim Alan videographer, Brian, flew to Mexico last Friday and spent Saturday capturing the important events of the day, which started with the ceremony on the beach. Lisa looked stunning as she came out of the resort and walked towards her groom-to-be and the rest of the wedding party.

After the wind-whipped ceremony, the couple and their wedding party and family took photos on the beach before heading to an outdoor cocktail hour at the resort. Some of the kids played with shells on the beach while the adults enjoyed the sounds of the ocean and cocktails before heading in for the reception.

The reception highlights included the first dance, toasts by the best man and father of the bride, spirited dancing, cutting the cake (that was actually made during the reception!), and finally the couple being showered with flower petals as they escaped to their waiting chariot- a John Deere golf cart!

Tim Alan will again be a sponsor for Junior League's 'A Wedding Affair': March 15, 2008

Tim Alan will once again be one of the primary sponsors at the NYC Junior League's 'A Wedding Affair' on March 15, 2008.

A Wedding Affair is more than just a show with some of NYC's top wedding vendors, but includes a silent auction, multiple industry speakers as well as food and drink throughout the day.

Some of the participants in last year's event included Kleinfeld Bridal, Ceci New York, April Reed Cakes, The Mandarin Oriental, Florisan Florists, Spencer Gordon Photography, Fete, Alpine Creative Group, Great Performances, Williams-Sonoma and many more....

Last year Tim Alan donated a full wedding package to the Junior League's silent auction, which was won by Lisa and Mark, whose February 2 wedding in Mexico will appear as a recap in tomorrow's blog.

Additionally, Tim Alan filmed the event and created a highlight which you can view below.

Steve & Jenny; February 2: The Manhattan Penthouse & The Church of the Ascension

When Steve and Jenny told me last fall that their wedding would have a 1930s theme, I was intrigued by the possibilities.

So when I arrived at the Gramercy Park Hotel on Saturday to watch Jenny change into her gown and accessories I felt like I had slipped back into time when viewing this vintage 1930s look she had successfully achieved. Everyone in the room was awe struck by the beauty and originality of the gown and bride. The theme continued with highlights including the car, bridesmaid dresses and all the details intricately set up throughout the day.

The ceremony at The Church of the Ascension on Fifth Avenue and 10th street was a mix of both religions- Jewish and Catholic. There was a Cantor and Priest who alternated throughout and unity candle lightings were mixed with Ketubah signings and glass breaking. As an alternative to rice and rose petals, the couple had custom-made flags for all their guests to wave as they exited the church. This made for a unique and fun recessional.

The Manhattan Penthouse
, only 4 blocks away, held breathtaking views inside and out, thanks in part to planner and decorator, Celebrate Flowers, for the interiors and the Manhattan Penthouse for it's location and windowed views.

Highlights of the night included a first dance that took months of practice, a festive Horah, the Mezinka, the Cuban theme that was everywhere, a mix of DJ and live music by Body Rock and the empanadas and coffee bar that came out for the guests at the end of the night....
